4400 Season 2 – Review

30 12 2007

Plot: These are the stories of 4400 abductees after they are returned to Earth. People dealing with traumatic changes, driven by the mystery of what happened and why. Some of them have been affected in mysterious ways, and some will have certain abilities, both good and bad. The pilot has a ball of light sailing towards Earth. But rather than the expected catastrophic event, thousands of returned abductees are left with no memory of their otherworldly experiences. Each has been gone anywhere from a few months to several decades but hasn’t aged a day.

Review: After watching Season 1 I decided to get S2, as I would like to know what happened etc. Season 2 is more of an actual season with a lot more episodes. Season 2 answers a lot of questions plus leaves you wanting to know more. Season 2 doesn’t really kick off till about half way through, but its very enjoyable.

I will be getting Season 3 very soon, crap just heard that they wont be doing a season 5 :-(

Review: This was a chance buy on ebay a while ago, and I have just re-watched it again. Season one only consists of a few episodes about 7, so its more like a pilot series rather than an actual series. Over it doesnt throw you in with loads of the 4400 only a few, which is good as you get to know and learn more about a few specific ones.

I really enjoyed season 1 as everything was done at a nice pace, and the cast and acting is really good. I recently purchased Season 2 and will be reviewing that soon.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Review

24 12 2007

Plot: In 1939, an intrepid reporter in New York City makes a connection between the story she’s covering– of famous scientists suddenly disappearing around the world, and a recent attack on the city by giant robots. Determined to find the solution to these happenings, she seeks the help of her ex-boyfriend, the captain of a mercenary legion of pilots. The two are investigating the case when the robots attack the city again, though in a stroke of luck, Sky Captain’s right hand man is able to locate their source. They then set off on an adventure in search of the evil mastermind behind these schemes, who is bent on creating a utopia and destroying the current world.

Review: I missed this in the cinema, so I decided to watch it since it was on TV. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Overall the look and soundtrack and acting was excellent, the whole old film look was really cool with a hint of new a very nice touch. I wouldnt get this on DVD but i did enjoy it.

Uptown Girls Review

24 12 2007

Plot: In New York City, Molly Gunn (Brittany Murphy) is a spoiled wealthy immature young woman, living as if she were a princess in a fairy tale. Her father was a popular rock-and-roll guitar player, who died in a plane crash with Molly’s mother when she was a little girl. On her birthday in a nightclub, she meets Lorraine “Ray” Schleine (Dakota Fanning), a nasty young girl with attitudes of an adult, living with her careless mother and a terminal father in a fancy uptown apartment. When Molly’s accountant vanishes with her US$ 100,000,000.00 inheritance, Molly is left with nothing but debts, and she needs to work to survive without having previous experience or any skills. She is hired to be Ray’s babysitter, and their close contact makes Molly reach the maturity and Ray act like as a child of her age

Review: Right from the start you knew how this was going to end, and also you could predict what would happen next. Overall it was a an ok feel good movie, but I am glad I missed this one at the cinema.

PeterPan (2003) Review

24 12 2007

Plot: In stifling Edwardian London, Wendy Darling mesmerizes her brothers every night with bedtime tales of swordplay, swashbuckling and the fearsome Captain Hook. But the children become the heroes of an even greater story, when Peter Pan flies into their nursery one night and leads them over moonlit rooftops through a galaxy of stars and to the lush jungles of Neverland. Wendy and her brothers join Peter and the Lost Boys in an exhilarating life–free of grown-up rules–while also facing the inevitable showdown with Hook and his bloodthirsty pirates.

Review: For me this was just hmm, it relied on far to much special FX and overall it was a little boring. The only actor in it that felt like they should have been in it was Wendy (Rachel Hurd-Wood) she played her part very well. This is one film I am glad I didnt see at the cinema, i wouldnt watch this again.

Tru Calling – Review

22 12 2007

Plot: The lead character, Tru Davies, (Eliza Dushku), is a young woman working the night shift at the City Morgue. Occasionally, the corpse of a newly dead person appears to awaken and utter the words “Help me” to her. As they do, Tru wakens with a start, at the beginning of the same day, finding herself compelled to stop the death, which may be the result of anything from suicide to murder. In the course of the re-run day, Tru often takes the opportunity to rectify various personal situations involving family and friends.

Review: I reviewed this a while ago on my forum, but I recently watched it for a second time and thought I would write another review. Just like the first watching I was a little bored, but then a few episodes in I was hooked again and needed to see what happened next. The bad part is, the UK DVD has the full of season one but only a few episodes of season 2 because FOX didn’t want to show the remaining episodes.

I really hate how FOX kill all the best shows, and keep the crap ones running for a long time. I hope that this series comes back for a third, and is picked up by another network and runs for a long time.

Host – Review

17 12 2007

Plot – On 09 February 2000, the American military base of Yongson releases
toxic chemicals in the drain to the Han River under the direct order of
an arrogant coroner. Six years later, a mutant squid monster leaves the
water and attacks people on the side of the river. The teenager Park
Hyun-seo is carried by the creature and vanishes in the river. While
grieving her loss, her slow father Park Gang-du; her grandfather and
owner of a bar-kiosk nearby the river Park Hie-bong; her aunt and
archery medalist Park Nam-Joo; and her graduated unemployed uncle Park
Nam-il are sent by the army with all the people that had some sort of
contact with the monster to quarantine in a facility. During the night,
Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-seo telling that she is alive
in a big sewage nearby the river. Gang-du tell the militaries but
nobody believes on his words, saying that he is delusional due to the
shock of his loss. The Park family joins forces trying to find Hyun-seo
and rescue her.

Review – The trailer made this look like a complete horror film, but this film doesnt know if it should be horror or comedy or action. Overall it was ok not as good as i had hoped for, would i have purchased it if i had seen it before buying this DVD….probably not.
