Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 3 – Review

30 09 2008

Plot : At the young age of 16, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cruel Intentions) was chosen to hunt vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. After the ordeal at Hemery High Buffy Summers wound up at Sunnydale High. Joined with Willow Rosenberg and Alexander “Xander” Harris, and her watcher Giles, Buffy fights the challenges of High School and saves the world…a lot.

Review : For me this is the best season out of 1,2 or 3 as it introduces Faith and also the Mayor. The plot lines are very strong, and the action scenes and special FX are a lot better. I really enjoyed this season, and as soon as it ended I put in Season 4 DVD 1.

That Darn Cat (1997) – Review

29 09 2008

Plot – A maid is kidnapped and scratches a message onto D.C. the cat’s collar and when his owner Patti discovers this, she plays amateur detective with the help of D.C. to try to find the culprits.

Review – I know this was meant to be a kids movie, but I still decided to give it shot. From start to finish i was 100% bored, and I couldn’t find anything in the movie that a kid would enjoy….it was a very dull and pointless movie with a very very thin plot and lame jokes.

Hostel (2005) – Review

27 09 2008

Plot – Three backpackers head to a Slovakian city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them.

Review – What a sick film, it started off very normal though the acting and plot was thin. When the deaths etc started to happen it just was very….bloody, and mega sick. It wasn’t a film you just sit down and enjoy, for me i wouldnt watch it again…not due to the gore but just cause its not that type of film for me.

The sickest part for me was, the guy cutting the chinese girls eye off from hanging down her face :s

Napoleon Dynamite (2004) – Review

27 09 2008

Plot – A listless and alienated teenager decides to help his new friend win the class presidency in their small western high school, while he must deal with his bizarre family life back home.

Review – I heard a lot of mixed things about this film, so I decided to give it a shot. What a load of crap, there was only two good things in this film.

1. His dancing scene – very well done
2. Tina Majorino (Deb) – very cute

Apart from that the film was very depressing, its acting was crap…just over all complete pants.

To Mac or not to Mac

21 09 2008

I used to be a windows user up until about 2 years ago, then I started to use Ubuntu as my main operating system.

Over the past 2 years I have really enjoyed learning about Linux, and also watching how Ubuntu has improved. The applications I use are 99% Gnome and only 1 application KDE based (Amarok). The laptop I am using is an HP Pavilion DVP6000 and I am now finding its getting very warm, when trying to do a few tasks….so I am now looking for a replacement.

I have had my eye on a Sony Viao, as I purchased one so I could use iTunes and SAM Broadcaster. It runs vista and YUK its crap….but leaving that aside its a fantastic laptop.

I have also started to look at Mac Books, though I have never been a fan of the OS. I have been reading up on OSX and I really like the full intigration it has with the apps, the iPhone etc. This has got me thinking about possibly getting a Mac Book now.

I have looked and checked and 99% of the applications I use on Ubuntu, are already ported over to OSX which is great. I then noticed that the graphics card on the Mac Book are a little lower than the Viao i was looking at…so I checked out the Mac Book Pro which has at the time of posting this a 8600GT which is a nice card. The battery life on the Mac’s are really good about 4 to 5 hours, where with my HP its about 30/45mins under Ubuntu which is pants.

So now I am highly thinking about getting a MBP, but not yet probably early 2009 as I have heard they will be doing a refresh to include BluRay support and BluRay drive which will mean a more up to date laptop.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 2 – Review

21 09 2008

Plot : At the young age of 16, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cruel Intentions) was chosen to hunt vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. After the ordeal at Hemery High Buffy Summers wound up at Sunnydale High. Joined with Willow Rosenberg and Alexander “Xander” Harris, and her watcher Giles, Buffy fights the challenges of High School and saves the world…a lot.

Review – After watching Season one, it reminded me of how much I liked this show. Its full of weird and wacky plots, a fun bunch of characters and cheesy special FX. Seaons 2 is just like Season one but its a lot better, the plot is a lot stronger and you learn more and more about each character.

I can remember the ending of Season 2, had a lot of watchers (no pun intended) and magazines talking. For me the ending to season 2 is a lot better than Season one.

Ghostbusters (1984) – Review

14 09 2008

Plot – Three unemployed parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service.

Review – After I heard that there was going to be a 3rd film, I jumped out and purchased the Ghostbusters 1 & 2 DVD pack.

I have not seen this film for a good few years, I could remember a little about it and that the last time i saw it the special FX looked great. Now I still enjoyed watching this film, and a good amount of the special fx hold up..yes some stick out like a sore thumb but hey it was done in 1984.

Overall a very good and funny film, that if you haven’t seen it go watch it…if you don’t have it on DVD go buy it :)

Amarok – Review

10 09 2008

This is a little addition to my other Amarok review, I posted a long time ago.

I recently purchased an iPod Touch, and since then I have been more into making sure my music collection is correctly tagged and also has the correct artwork embedded or downloaded. Before I didn’t mind too much, but now that the Touch has cover flow it looks a lot better than blank covers.

I decided to look at how to embed images into mp3’s, as iTunes and sometimes Amarok didn’t get the correct artwork for my jpop/cpop albums. After searching loads I noticed Amarok had a script manager…I have used this application a lot but never ever opened the script manager…now I am glad I did.

The first script I installed was “EmbedCover”, I would google the album artwork..then attach it in the Cover manager and then Embed and BINGO :) now it will always have the correct artwork.

I have also started to look into playing music of a similar genre so, instead of jumping on to google I looked into the script manager. I saw “LastFM Genre Tagger” and bingo it works like a charm.

Slowly but shurly my collection is starting to get a lot more organised, the only remaining task is to make sure I have no doublers or the wrong cover is attached to the album….this I can do at a nice slow pace, but for now Embeding and genre is doing its thing :)

I cant wait till Ubuntu 8.10 so I can install Amarok 2, as Amarok 2 looks soooo nice :)

Firewall (2006) – Review

7 09 2008

Plot : With his family held for ransom, the head security executive for a global bank is commanded to loot his own business for millions in order to ensure his wife and children’s safety. He then faces the demanding task of thwarting the kidnapper’s grand scheme, which makes him look guilty of embezzlement

Review : I saw this in the cinema, and enjoyed it from start to end. The acting and most of the plot was strong. The first part of the film is constantly strong i.e. acting and plot, though the last part for me didn’t feel as strong as the first…maybe it was rushed? This film is full of good actors, some that only second time round you go “oh thats…from..”.

I would recommend this film, to any thriller and action fan.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997) Season 1 – Review

7 09 2008

Plot : At the young age of 16, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cruel Intentions) was chosen to hunt vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. After the ordeal at Hemery High Buffy Summers wound up at Sunnydale High. Joined with Willow Rosenberg and Alexander “Xander” Harris, and her watcher Giles, Buffy fights the challenges of High School and saves the world…a lot.

Review : I remember when this first aired on TV, and it was getting loads of hype as it was going to be big. I decided to give it a shot and ever since episode 1, I was hooked. Season one for me started off a little slow, but they were slowly introducing the characters to you.

I recently just watched Season one back to back, and I still enjoyed watching it very much. Its amazing the jokes you forget plus the storylines.
