Brüno (2009) – Review

13 07 2009

Plot : Flamboyant Austrian fashionista Brüno takes his show to America

Review : I had never seen Borat, and only seen a few Ali G shows on TV so I really didnt know what to expect.

This is not the type of film I would normally go and see, or run out and purchase on DVD if I missed it at the cinema.

Bruno is a very interesting film, it has a lot of funny parts which do make you laugh out loud or cring in laughter. The film has a lot of sexual jokes that are very funny, but most of them make you go “oh my god”.

I left the cinema thinking “how did he get away with most of those stunts” and “I am very surprised that they allowed some of that content to be shown”.

To be honest I really dont know what to make of this film, I did laugh a lot and enjoy watching it but its not really my style of film. I dont think this is one where I would go and see it again, or purchase on DVD.

Overall loaded with sexual humour and a a few shock value momments, but not my style of film.

My Rating : 5 out of 10

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) – Review

13 07 2009

Plot : In late 1950’s New York, Tom Ripley, a young underachiever, is sent to
Europe to retrieve a rich and spoiled millionaire playboy, named Dickie
Greenleaf. But when the errand fails, Ripley kills the playboy and
begins to assume his life.

Review : I had not seen this film till recently, as a friend gave me it on DVD to watch. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this film, some loved it and some just thought it was just O.K.

The story is very well written, and how he starts to become the other guy and plan everything around him so nobody knows that Dickie is dead is very well done. The acting and cinematography is very nice, and mixed with its varied soundtrack it plays very well.

For me the film was just O.K, it was very well done but just something about it didnt click for me. Its not one that I would watch again or purchase on DVD….dont get me wrong it was a well written film but it just didnt click for me.

Overall its got a good cast, well acted, and the locations used in the film are very nice.

My Rating : 6 out of 10

True Blood Series 1 : Review

8 07 2009

Plot : The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a young girl who
can read people’s minds, and how her life is turned upside down when a Vampire, walks into her place of employment.

Review : I had heard only a little about this, mostly it was interesting and was about vampires so I decided to give this a shot.

This is an interesting show and yes it is about vampires, but 50% of the show is story and the other 50% is about sex and nudity…its like a TV porn vampire series and that kinda sums it up very well. Granted there is nothing with including sex or nudity scenes, but it felt like they put them in there to try and get the viewers and not really focus on getting a good story.

Overall not a very enjoyable series, and I wont be watching season 2.
